The most picturesque wedding on a perfect Chicago summer day!

The Union League Club of Chicago is such a picturesque venue, and one that fit this day perfectly. April and Lily chose to get ready at the venue and have their reception there, holding their ceremony in the gardens of Maggie Daley Park. For their wedding day, Lily and April wanted their wedding to feel timeless while incorporating personal touches throughout. The couple chose to get ready together and forgo a first look. I’ve found that many queer couples are bucking the tradition of getting ready separately in order to spend as much time together as possible during their day. Instead, they opted to have a first look with their fathers before heading to Maggie Daley Park. We took photos with their wedding party as well as their personal portraits at the park before their ceremony.

The couple’s ceremony was filled with happy tears, heartfelt vows, and lots of laughter. It was a beautifully warm August day, and everyone there shared in their joy. Having the ceremony at Maggie Daley Park was important to the couple; they wanted their guests to get a taste of Chicago summer.

Cocktail hour at the Union League Club was held in the club’s library, where guests enjoyed a live string band and drank custom cocktails. The couple played the “shoe game” in which they tried to see if Lily or April knew the other one better. They tied! Following cocktail hour, guests made their way into the ballroom, filled with candles and flowers.

Once guests were seated for dinner, the couple shared their first dance. Family and bridesmaids gave touching (and hilarious) speeches while guests ate, and then April and Lily cut their gorgeous wedding cake. Finally, everyone took to the dance floor and let loose! This wedding day at the Union League Club of Chicago was one for the books.
