A beautiful queer wedding in the woods, surrounded by friends and family

A queer couple celebrates their wedding at The Grove Redfield Estate in Glenview, Illinois.

The Grove Redfield Estate is one of the most beautiful venues in the northern suburbs, and it was the perfect spot for Sam and Eden’s queer wedding. The couple wanted to have a wedding that reflected their relationship and their love, and I think they truly had their vision realized. Sam and Eden got ready together at the Redfield Estate lodge. I love when queer couples buck the norm and get ready together. Don’t get me wrong, I love a first look too, but there are ways you can still have a first look in your wedding dress or suit while spending the morning together. After the couple got ready in their absolutely amazing fits, we took photos with their family. I always advise couples to take family photos before the ceremony, because they then don’t have to worry about taking time out of their cocktail hour.

Sam and Eden wanted to greet their guests as they arrived instead of hiding before their ceremony. They got to spend even more time with their friends and family, sharing drinks and laughs before the couple exchanged vows. Guests were not only excited to see the couple, but also each other! It felt like a big reunion of sorts, with kids playing table tennis and running through the grass before the ceremony.

Sam and Eden’s ceremony was in the gazebo on the Redfield Estate grounds. Their guests walked the grounds and found themselves in a beautiful green field surrounded by trees. The couple officiated their own wedding, reading their personal passages to each other. They encouraged guests before the wedding to bring a rock or pebble that meant something to them so they could place them in a glass jar for the couple to have. Additionally, I took a Polaroid of the Sam and Eden with all of their guests that they wouldn’t look at until their next wedding anniversary. It was a perfect and unique afternoon.

The reception in the Redfield Grove pavilion was took place as the sun set. A few deer walked past as we took portraits. It felt like the deer were there to celebrate too! The couple shared a first dance following toasts before everyone joined them on the dance floor. And, as dusk turned to night, the party really started. It was a perfect wedding day.

Congratulations to Sam and Eden!
